Went back to school after the Ironman and have been busy every since. No time to write a race report , since I’ve been writing essays and research papers.
But I had a bit of a minor mental episode this last Sunday , and realize I MUST get back I to the gym or I’m risking my sanity. Literally!
Yesterday was the first time in 5 months I was able to make it to the gym. Tonight was the second, and I feel alive! I only swam 10 laps each night, but its a start.

Been very busy at work. Will try to do race report tonight ![]()
Didn’t have lunch today. I was too busy. Stopped by Walmart to get a case of water and mini blueberry muffins. I ate FOUR!! That’s 320 kcals. Haha!

Just insight from someone who was horrified to swim freestyle and had never swam in open water!
I would close my eyes when I put my head in the water & opened them when I turned for a breath. I would count out 5 strokes and then pop up to sight. For the most part I stayed straight. I only needed one stroke to correct me. Same thing yesterday in the bay.
When my hand entered the water it goes in flat lime a paddle and stays that way as I stretch out like I want to touch something way out there, then leaving my hand like a paddle I bend at the elbow and pull my hand along my centerline. Not alongside me or to the outside. I do this with each stroke and I don’t wander but within a one stroke correction
Oh and I mainly use my hips to turn my body like a board. Which turns my head
This has been a great experience!

I can not believe the day is almost here. I can remember my nervousness just clicking that “SUBMIT” button when I signed up.
All the challenges I have had along the way and overcoming them. The excitement of conquering each challenge.
Last night was only the 2nd open water swim I have ever done. I did it and my 44 mile Saturday ride with a bunch of awesome guys from Pulse Endurance Sports in Chula Vista (www.pulseendurancesports.com).
My main inspiration came from my brother-in-law who is to me more of a friend than a relative. I watched him last year. This last year has been an experience to say the least. I’m not really nervous like I was for the marathons, which is strange to me. I’m really excited!
Especially after last night’s swim. I know there is no real accurate way to measure the swim I did, but I used www.mapmyrun.com and it said 1.27 miles. That alone give me more confidence. Not sure if it was 45 mins. I know we were supposed to have “toes in the water” at 6:00pm, but it might have been earlier or later. But even so, we did some resting at the buoys, so I believe I got this!

Love it! Love it! Love it! Gotta find a way to stop the cramping in my toes when I tried to jog fast though. My toes don’t cramp when I use my cycling shoes?? But during spin class I use my running shoes.
